Fabric Dying with Plants

An Experience from Still Garments

Event Description

In this workshop you will get an introduction to dyeing with plants with a focus on local plants and environmentally friendly staining. You'll learn about the selection of suitable fabrics, the preparation and the staining for rich colors.

In the workshop we color with at least four different plants. When you stir in the dye pot, you get a feel for the process yourself, but you can browse through books and dye samples. You'll have the opportunity to try out and dye your own fabrics. This practice is accompanied by theory about dyeing, fibers and durability. In the end you go home with a lot of inspiration and a sound basic knowledge. You will also receive dye samples on different fabrics from all dye pots, and a booklet to take with you with all the important information.

About the Partner

Still Garments

Still Garments

STILL garments offers workshops using plant and botanicals to naturally dye fabric. The plants used for dying are locally grown in the region, and foraged from local surroundings or cultivated in the garden. Dyeing with plants requires a bit of patience and time, which can create a space for quiet and contemplation, allowing for conversations around plants and craft. Get to know plants and how to live with nature's seasons and cycles on the dyer plant walk workshop, that deep dives into the botanical used for plant dying.
